Afcons Infrastructure, a part of the Shapoorji Pallonji Group, has recently been awarded one of the biggest infrastructure projects in the Maldives. The contract is for the construction of a new bridge across the Hanumadhoo atoll in South Male.
As a company that has delivered over 150 bridges and flyover projects and 190+ marine projects, ‘the Greater Male’ Connectivity Project’, funded by the Exim Bank of India for $530 million under the Indian Grant and Line of Credit, is an apt fit for Afcons. The project is designed to connect Male, Villingili, Gulhifalhu, and Thilafushi islands in the span of 32 months.
The Greater Male’ Connectivity Project (GMCP)
The bridge, commonly known as the Greater Male’ Connectivity Project, will allow easy navigation by connecting the 3 marine viaducts in 140m. The Government of Maldives considers this project to be an economic lifeline for the country which will help connect the islands in this atoll and provide them with easy access to healthcare, education, and other important services.
